Allegory: Marie Dungan

March 1 - April 29, 2017
My work ranges from functional to sculptural. Somehow the figure or suggestion thereof, find their way in as well as images of my early exposure to nature which imbues and imbeds the forms.  People who work in clay speak of the medium as "having memory", how it will return to shapes formed, albeit even rips, cracks, etc.   So too with people - I have only to look down to see mother's feet; gaze into the mirror to recognize father's face.  Some work is stretched, fractured, textured, accentuated with numerous lines and marks, etc., creating tension that speaks to the known and unknown.  Other work is burnished into
smoothness, inviting touch.
